Marking the launch of 88 Films Slasher Classics Collection is GRADUATION DAY, a Californian shot horror which was banned after its pre-cert UK release on IFS under a Section 3 Seizure Order, although its content was reappraised to a 15 certification as early as 2003 for its budget Hollywood DVD release. It proved an unlikely… Read More Graduation Day (1981)

With the advent of the irrationally popular TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic book The Walking Dead, the age old zombie genre is very much in vogue. They’ve always been there – White Zombie (1932) was an early classic as was Jacques Tourneur’s I Walked with a Zombie (1943), but of late the emphasis on… Read More Goal of the Dead (2014)

Well this is a curio. A Hungarian production with a 30 year old director making his debut feature alongside a cast filled with cult legends – Tim Curry, Lance Henriksen, Sean Young, Michael Winslow and Brad Dourif. One might think it has potential, but a cursory glance of IMDb yields no critic reviews and just… Read More Gingerclown (2013)

Horror hipsters! It’s ok to like movies like this you know. Yes they’re predominantly awful with bad CGI gore, ridiculous concepts and made for TV sensibilities, but nothing – I repeat, nothing satisfies my post 1am movie craving than a ridiculously titled creature feature. The fact that it’s directed by Griff Furst only adds to… Read More Ghost Shark (2013)

I remember Michael Oblowitz’ first mainstream movie quite vividly – it was This World, then the Fireworks, a bold attempt at neo-noir as it attempted to adapt a Jim Thompson story for the screen. It didn’t quite succeed but I’d certainly regard it as an admirable failure, certainly in the screen siren casting department as… Read More The Ganzfeld Possession (2014)

Iceland has had quite a prodigious output of films in recent years, maybe not so in the horror genre although one notable exception was undoubtedly Harpoon aka Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre (2009). With Frost, a cursory glance at the premise reveals echoes of been there, seen it, bought the t-shirt. However, as Larry Fessenden proved… Read More Frost (2012)

Have they ever remade a sequel? This would make a more entertaining prospect for contemporary films in my estimation! Imagine a remake of Friday 13th: The Final Chapter or Halloween VI: The Curse of Michael Myers – it would pique your interest more than this would it not. For Fright Night 2, the title is… Read More Fright Night 2 (2013)

Just as the sorority house based horror was a requisite part of the early 80s, the last five years seem to have seen more than its fair share of Nazi-zombie orientated movies. After notable appearances in films like the excellent Shockwaves (1977) or Jean Rollin’s crazy Zombie Lake (1981) we had somewhat of a lull… Read More Frankenstein’s Army (2013)

Can you believe Shameless Screen Entertainment are seven years old this year? Indeed, back in late 2007 they entered the unsuspecting UK market with Lucio Fulci’s New York Ripper and followed it up with such classics as Torso and Strip Nude for Your Killer. Indeed, it could be argued that they were trailblazers at that… Read More Formula for a Murder (1985)
